What to Expect

With approximately 500 people participating in one or several of our worship services, Sunday mornings are an active time at Wesley Memorial. Our Lighthouse and 11 AM Traditional services are both distinct and connected, meaning that our community joins together in worship that has both traditional and modern forms. Our pastors prayerfully and collaboratively work to ensure that Wesley Memorial learns and grows together, with their teachings and messages taking root in common Scripture and themes.

We’re a thriving multi-generational church, meaning that an eclectic mix of students, young/middle-aged/older adults, and families frequently worship together. While your children are more than welcome to worship with you in any of our services, we also offer child care (infants through age 3) and Kid’s Worship (for children ages 4 – 2nd grade).

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse service offers an approach to worship that many might call ‘contemporary’ or ‘modern’. A live band leads the congregation in worship songs, some of which you may be familiar with through Christian radio, and worship leaders encourage participants in a fresh engagement with Christianity’s vital history of prayer and praise.
This is a multi-generational service that begins at 8:45 AM, meeting for worship together in our gymnasium, and may feel (for someone who is new to Wesley Memorial) more ‘casual’ in structure and dress than our 11 AM Traditional service. Please feel free to arrive beforehand in order to enjoy connection and refreshments with others, and stay afterward for one of our wide variety of Sunday School groups.

11 AM Traditional

The 11 AM Traditional service meets for worship in our sanctuary, and frequently features music led by piano or organ, Wesley Memorial’s gifted choirs, Hand Bell and Hand Chime musicians, instrumental ensembles, and soloists. Worship songs are largely drawn from the United Methodist hymnal, and the congregation participates in a traditional liturgy that includes the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostle’s Creed. This is a multi-generational service in which you’ll likely see acolytes, pastors, and choir members wearing traditional robes, and a regular message for children is also offered.

Safe, secure nursery care is provided for infants through children 3 years of age, from 8:30 am-12 noon, in our preschool area, off of the rear of the Sanctuary in Room 110. Parents are encouraged to arrive prior to worship in order register your child. Nursery care is also offered at our Lighthouse service.

Children who are 4 years old – 2nd grade may participate in Kid’s Worship during all of our services. If you desire your children to participate in Kid’s Worship, please have them attend worship with you. The opportunity for them to travel to Kid’s Worship with an Children’s Ministry leader will be offered prior to the sermon or after the children’s message. Kid’s Worship meets in the Adult Education Center Building, in Room 402. Parents are encouraged to pick up their children immediately after the worship service.
