Mission At Wesley Memorial

United Methodists understand the mission of the church to be making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We help people to know Jesus and follow him when we share the gospel of God’s grace and seek out, welcome, nurture, and lead people to lives committed to Christ.

At Wesley Memorial, we believe that a life committed to Jesus is a life devoted to gospel-living. Whether our youth group is passionately raising funds for ministry through our famous Wesley Pumpkin Patch or our adults heading out to rebuild homes with our Disaster Response Team, the people are Wesley Memorial are devoted to mission. We are people who hunger for justice and loving kindness, lived out by healing the sick, feeding the hungry, caring for the stranger, freeing the oppressed, being a compassionate, caring presence, and working to develop social structures that line up with the gospel (Matthew 10:8, 25:34-36). In order to accomplish this, we directly engage and partner with many others in mission and outreach, both locally and around the world.
Local & Global
We are people on a mission in Wilmington because of Jesus at work in our lives. Whether it’s across the street, helping students and teachers at Winter Park Elementary School, supporting Walking Tall Wilmington’s efforts to empower persons in poverty, joining A Safe Place in caring for survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking, working with Interfaith Refugee Ministry in the Port City, building community with The Gathering Place at Wesley, or rebuilding homes and lives with WARM (Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry) or Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, the people of Wesley Memorial are grateful to serve.

Because of Jesus, we’re feeding the hungry and caring for those in need through partnering with Early Bread, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, All God’s Children, KAIROS Prison Ministry, the Methodist Home for Children, and many others.

We’re excited to continue to welcome and support one of the largest Cub Scout Packs in the area, Pack 226, and provide space in partnership for the vital work of the YWCA of Lower Cape Fear.

Around the world, we’re on a mission to make the generosity of God in Christ Jesus known. We’re partnering with ZOE, Rise Against Hunger, Project Agape, Mission of Hope, and many other organizations devoted to sharing the love of Jesus.

If you are passionate about sharing the love of Jesus through mission and service, we’d love to have you join with us at Wesley Memorial!
